A group of us stayed on Biyadhoo in 2005 as it was, and still is very reasonably priced, and as it is only a 3 star resort and has two story accommodation it would not normally have been the resort that I would choose, but we had our children with us on a tight budget so we gave it a go, once again Thomson - Faraway Shores came through with a great price and a great trip.
As I mentioned before the rooms are two story and are in two blocks and are more than adequate apart from the lack of a decent outdoor sitting area on the ground floor where you share your space with the air conditioning unit, but this aside the garden and view to the beach are lovely.
The snorkelling in Biyadhoo is fantastic
The house reef here is one of the best that I have seen, and surrounds about 75% of the island, it is absolutely teeming with reef fish and the biggest tuna that you are likely to see unless you go diving.
Speaking of diving there are some famous dive sites right on your door step and to get to most of them you have to take a dhoni ride through a narrow channel which can be quite choppy but good fun, even for non divers as there is a huge pod of dolphins that like to show off.
The dive school is well equipped and well run, my son, and daughter took their padi open water course on the house reef, and after they passed their exam we all went diving together, it was brilliant.
All of the staff on the island were lovely, the restaurant is air conditioned and the food is good, my only real concern about this island would be about the general look of some of the buildings as they had red tin roofs when we were there but the manager at the time had plans to cover these with thatch, which would make them look so much better, but I am not sure if this has been done yet.
So there you have it, a beautiful island, fantastic house reef, great diving, good food, friendly staff and slightly strange accommodation, but if the price was right we would go back, and if you bear in mind that this is a very low cost resort and you are not expecting the Hilton then give Biyadhoo a try, this is a lovely little island and can work out cheaper than a fortnight in the Canaries.
