Sun Island Resort

Sun Island resort was the first Maldivian island my wife and I visited back in November 2000 and can only be described as paradise. From the moment that we got off of the sea plane we knew we had found somewhere really special.

The sea plane had to land outside of the reef and moor up to a floating pontoon as the lagoon here is quite shallow and then a dhoni with a small crew came over within two or three minutes to collect us and our luggage.

Then it was over to the island to be met by a welcoming party with cold towels and a cocktail before booking in and to cut a long story short, from then on we were treated like royalty.

Being one of the largest islands, sun island resort has every thing you could wish for and yet still manages to keep the maldivian charm or the robinson crusoe feel as I like to call it.

The beach bungalows are first class and are set between mature palms and tropical plants with plenty of shade with your own little patch of garden leading on to the beach.

This is the view you can expect while you relax on your verandah, the gardens and beach are kept immaculate as is everything else on this island.

The beaches on Sun Island Resort are fantastic as with all maldivian resorts and as the lagoon on this island is quite a size and is relatively shallow the water is really warm inside the reef and can easily reach 30 degrees if not more.
When I recommend the maldives some people seem to worry if they will get a bit bored but on sun island even if you dont dive or snorkell there are so many things to see and do, its just so beautiful you really have to see it to believe it.
We liked Sun Island so much that one year later we were back, this time with our son and daughter, who like us absolutely love it here.

Infact every other island that we visit gets compared to this one, and with the budget that we have sun island really takes some beating.
